Found my first Tassie gems on the long weekend. All small and /or poor quality but so beautiful and the Weld is such a great spot even if you find nothing. Might have to get the thickest dive gloves I can find cos my fingers were bluer than the stones after a few hours!Blue fingers

Heading back down to camp by the frome rd bridge this Wednesday night (27th) if anyone wants to drop in. Got plenty of firewood and get the feeling I'll be needing it!

Re: Blue fingers
The rewards for a couple of days of freezing fingers, leaches, extreme 4wd tracks and bush bashing. Mostly gem sand but one blue green sapphire that might be big enough to cut and a topaz that is the biggest gem I have ever found so I'm pretty happy. Does anybody know what the little reddish ones in the weld and main ck are likely to be.

Looks like some good finds, you are pretty keen to head out into the water at this time of year! Most of the reddish brown stones I have found over that way are zircons, some places they are thicker than others. Cheers

Some nice finds there, Dave, and that topaz, wow... I'm guessing that may be out of Main Creek and not the Weld?
When do you think you'll be heading down next? I had a bit of a scratch around the Weld and a creek just out of Branxholm over the last couple of weeks, and I'm definitely investing in a good pair of dive gloves! haha..
It has been nearly two years since I've been out for a good dig, getting the itch again at just the wrong time of year!
