Native Copper from Back Creek

Post by Fox » Tue Sep 02, 2014 10:49 pm

Did some exploring around the top end of the Red Lead and around some of the shafts & adits of the Sir John Franklin mine on Sunday and found two little subgram copper nuggets with the Garrett ATX for a combined weight of 0.5gm.
Scrub bashed for about 300m following the Red Lead SE and noted a lot of old shallow shafts and pits. The thick vegetation made swinging the detector very difficult and nothing of value was found in that area. Will have another crack at it when I return from the mainland.

Nice finds there Fox,
Is the Sir John Franklin mine the one up the top of the hill near the slate mine or am I confusing it with a different one?
