i met two absolutely lovely International gem hunter this morning in the sunny North East of Tasmania. They are from away and are travelling the world looking for precious gemstones to get them to the next spot and just happened to find some of the most magnificent Tasmanian Sapphires i have ever seen in their natural state in this state or elsewhere. As good as any from Ceylon , Burma or Thailand (heat treated or natural) Right here in Tassie. They where saying, they'd started out looking for Gold down here and almost went broke, lol.. So sold the detectors and went screening instead and never looked back.
i think its important to remember the run of gem Corundum (Sapphire) runs from Tasmania. Right up the East coast of Australia and inland a bit, Emerald, New England etc, up Into South East Asia and up into some of the biggest gem fields in the world.
