trying to identify this for my uncle

Hi all can any one identify this rock my uncle said he found it in a tin mine he used to work in down the east coast some where.

Cool looking mineral, but I really have no idea. It looks kind of wet and greasy...

Yes it probably is a bit wet as he gave them all a quick wash under cold water to remove about 30years of dust off it so we could see it

HI

its Smithsonite (ZnCO3) The green is Copper and also contains an appreciable amount of Zinc. Its the second largest ore of zinc after Sphalerite. Broken hill was built on it.

It looks to be Quartz with some secondary Copper mineral giving it the green colouration, most likely Brochantite. definitely not Smithsonite. Any idea what part of the east cost it was found?

We think it came out of rossrden on the east coast if that helps.

I would go with Brochantite on Quartz? there are primary Copper minerals in the Rossarden lodes, which would produce secondary species when oxidised.
