Gday everyone, the time has come for my first decent stone to be turned into a gem.Not sure on costs associated with cutting a stone but this one deserves the best it can get or I can afford.Got a load in Thailand but this one needs a little respect.Anybody here in Tasmania cutting for others? cheers

Been to this show last year. There's several people who can cut stones in the Devonport Lapidary Club, AFAIK.
Not too long to wait till the 25th. Should be worth a try.

Hi diggin. Phil Mason down in salamanca place @ Masons cuts and sets stones in his unique Portuguese style, but im not sure if he just cuts stones alone. Here's a sapphire that he cut and set in his style and i had our local wizz jeweler (KNUT) in st helens make up the matching diamond ring that accompanies it. There would have to others out there but you may need to approach a lap club to find them! Good luck.

Hi digginhard,
Great place Derby - wife, kids and I enjoy fossicking in the area whenever we can get up there, but haven't found much to speak of yet.
I am a facetor in training, so would not be confident to cut your pride and joy sapphire as pictured, at this stage. However, if you have a stone of comparable size but of lesser value, maybe a zircon or topaz or second-rate sapphire I would be willing to cut it for you for free to show you my abilities. Did you have a particular cut in mind?
Anyhow I am based in Hobart, so if you don't mind letting the apprentice cut your hair, PM me and we can go from there,
Cheers,
zzeehan
