Awesome find.

if your interested. Richard Sykes AIF Service Number was 673
he is a copy of his attestation papers from 100 years ago.

He was 44 years years old when he enlisted in the AIF. Im trying to find out if he is the same Sykes that had a claim and mined on the South Bank of Bell Mountain goldfield at Sykes workings. if its the same person? i bet he would be very happy you found it.

Thanks Phil , a member on AMDRU also supplied his enlistment papers . I have found some more family details on the net as well , i don't seem to be able to find many relatives at all . He died in 1958 , his wife died in January 1916 and he enlisted November 1916 , he may have been very depressed at the time and it may have contributed to his being discharged as prematurely senile . His only child died in 1985 , she married a W.T. Todd but i have not been able to find out if they had any children . He did describe himself as a mining manager so may well be linked to the area you mention .
