Hi all,
wondering what coins/relics people have uncovered this year?
I'll kick off with a recent one having "borrowed" my wife's new Etrac to detect around an old weatherboard cottage.
1912 half penny in top nick first signal!
what have others found?
cheers,
Drystone

Replies are coming in thick and fast drystone ! Most members must just be chasing the yellow or gems . My best coins for 2016 are 3 bullhead shillings 1816 ,1816,1817 and a hard to find Groat [four pence ] . In 2015 i was lucky enough to find a 1895 gold sovereign .

hey Whitehunter,
great finds and pictures! 1816 is getting back there: 200 year old coins for Tassie is a top effort.
Have a groat as one of my "must get" coins: seems like not too many about.
Also would be keen to uncover some traders tokens too: but probably have to pick your target sites for those?
I'll post a few other pics up in a week or so when I am not chasing the yellow myself :)
cheers,

well, here's a couple of silvers, but at the humble end of the spectrum: some threepence!
Still all 20th century, but hope to push back into the 19th soon
cheers

Always good to find silvers i reckon , especially the pre 1946 ones that are 90 odd % silver . That 1925 3d didn't see much use before it was lost , still has very good detail . Good hunting , and merry Christmas .

These old copper coins and an interesting button came to light from an old house site in the Derwent Valley.
Quite heavily corroded so precise dates hard to come by, but "young-head" Queen Victoria coins give an age bracket of 1837-1887, King George IV much earlier and more precise at 1825-1827.
Button has hunting dog and maker's name on back D.W. Pigott & Co. 8 Lad Lane, London.

My only 2016 pre-decimal coin find was this sixpence at Back Creek on the PMAT field trip last January. Didn't get to do much coin hunting but I will share this little tip, the Coiltek 6" digger coil for the X-terra is THE perfect clothes-line coil. I dug under an old line that had probably been at least 50 years, and each shovel full contained up to 10 peg springs, so any larger coils are useless because you get mad signals, but that coil can find the coins.

Cheers,
