Postby seanr0 » Thu Aug 27, 2015 9:40 pm

Found this a month ago at near Lefroy, my first nugget for tasmania too. Wieght was 1.48g Sounded like iron only a couple of cm from the surface. Would have found in with a dick smith VLF machine. loving the sdc2300 though went well at creswick (VIC) a week ago got plenty of pieces under 0.1g

very nice finds mate, where abouts in Creswick did you go? I spent 2 whole days there last month, working tirelessly with my Garret AT-GOLD and found absolutely nothing but a 10 buttloads of trash and 2 handfuls of blisters. the constant chatter of ground noise made it unbearable and painstakingly frustrating to say the least. If I turned the sensitivity down enough to handle the noise then I would've been missing any subgram nuggets. I resorted to getting the pan out and finding gold the old fashioned way just so I didn't walk away empty handed...

haven't really even bothered with it since and am seriously considering investing in something like an SDC2300 or similar to swing around down here on the isle.

On another note im heading out to Granville hardour for a fishing/camping trip this long weekend but might venture up to corinna for a day with a pan. anyone who is up that way is welcome to join.

Wish me luck!

Hi mids0n

Cant recall where i was in Creswick on that trip. But i have never had a trip to creswick without finding gold... however it is a numbers game i am told there is around 100 pieces of trash to the pieces of gold and that would be right too i work my ass off digging anything that sounds like a piece of lead shot. The local "professional prospectors" dont bother going out with the sdc2300 and look for the small stuff 0.1g they call it "flyshit" so there is heaps out there still. I remember my last trip i walked into a pub in the area showing the locals what i found proud as punch. The next day i ran into the same few local and the takeaway store where i was referred to as "flyshit richardson"..
Any way get your self a 2300 i dont think there is much point looking for gold in this day and age with anything but a pulse induction detector.
