HI
South South West of White Swan Reservoir, just above Nerrina had lots of past workings and quite a bit of open ground. To the East was not pegged. And only a few to the west. The map ive circled the most productive looking area to me anyway. If you look on google maps the white areas going into the green reserves like tongues, are past major alluvial workings. Victoria is choice for showing the old workings just by using maps to show land classification. All the major alluvial gold producing areas are now the white gaps going up into the reserves right throughout the golden triangle so a simple way of finding productive areas easily.. go google..

Thanks very much phill :) ended up going panning at Slater creek camp ground no 3. whi has being absolutely flogged. I wanted to get the detector out but I wasn't too keen on the missus walking around out there with all the massive holes that has been dug. Ended up with 2 specks and a picker :)

HI this is another example of how easy it is to hit shallow (10 feet to surface) gold bearing alluvial's in Victoria, using google maps. This map is of Dunolly and each of the white out areas are the old gullies and leads that pulled thousands and thousands of ounces of big nuggets. I know they get gold in a quite a few other areas in the immediate district. However these white areas correspond directly to the major shallow nuggety occurrences of the past.

In regard of Slatey creek
we have had reasonable chunky gold
come out of the upper section of creek above the junction of Cotties creek. Well above campground 3
Nice crevicing and shallow wash.
Good luck

Had a great time in Creswick, Victoria last weekend. We went to Slaty creek and a property south east of it where I found 3 small nugget all around 0.2 grams on the sdc 2300. My first find yeeehaaa. The local there are very friendly go to the local pub mention gold and you will get plenty of advice on where to go. Stories of big finds. And alot of History of the area and the surrounding gold fields in general.
Also went to daylesford sailors falls just off the highway and spent a couple of hours sluicing in the creek found plenty.
Will certainly be coming back to the area latter in the years.
